Indiana Dunes State Park Engagement

There’s something truly special about photographing someone you’ve watched grow up, especially when they’re in love with someone who already feels like family. This summer, I had the joy of spending a magical morning with my beautiful niece Liz, her soon-to-be-husband Kyle, and the real star of the show, their pup Chief, on the beaches of northwest Indiana.

Liz and Kyle’s story is straight out of a book. They met back in 7th grade and had crushes on each other that slowly grew into something so sweet and enduring. From holding hands while walking to the park to meeting at their lockers for secret hugs amid a chorus of giggling friends, their connection was strong even back then. Kyle famously asked Liz out using a soccer ball. He kicked a ball to her with “Will you be my girlfriend?” written on it. Of course, she said yes!

Fast forward years later, and their love story continues to be full of beautiful moments. Liz and Kyle got engaged in fall 2024 at Citizens Park, a place that has always held a special place in their hearts. Kyle planned the perfect proposal with Liz’s mom and sisters helping him. He led her to the park’s iconic treehouse, beautifully decorated with photos, flowers, lights, and candles. Surrounded by all the memories they had built together, Kyle got down on one knee and proposed!

For their engagement session, Liz wanted a beachy vibe. You know I love that! So we planned early morning photos at the Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton, IN. The light was soft and the water was beautiful that morning. Between the sweet looks, playful moments, and a few dog kisses, it was impossible not to smile behind my camera.

When I think about what makes Liz and Kyle such a perfect match, it’s easy to see. Liz adores Kyle for his big heart, his patience, and his unwavering support. Kyle loves Liz for her compassion, her determination, and her sense of humor that keeps him laughing every single day. Together, they bring out the best in each other and in everyone lucky enough to be around them.

I cannot wait to celebrate their wedding next summer in Chesterton, IN. It feels like such a privilege to document this joyful chapter of their lives. These photos are extra special, not just because of their love story, but because I got to capture my niece in these happy moments.

Liz and Kyle, thank you for letting me tag along on this early morning adventure. Chief, of course, thank you for stealing the spotlight just enough to make us all laugh. Here’s to your beautiful love story!
