Devyn and Mike’s Morton Arboretum Wedding was one of the last fall weddings of the season, and such a beautiful one! I first met this couple at Mike’s brother Tom’s wedding in 2020 and was so excited when they reached out to book me for their wedding.
As I was driving to the hotel the morning of the wedding, the weather was pretty miserable with wind and rain. Thankfully it stopped just in time for the first look and the rest of portrait time. I got to the bridal suite to find Devyn and her girls hanging out and getting hair and makeup done. Everyone was so relaxed, so I got started on Devyn’s details and some photos of everyone getting ready. Once Devyn had her hair and makeup done, she got into her dress with the help of her sweet mom. This is always one of my favorite parts of the day, watching the mother of the bride as her daughter becomes a bride right before her eyes. I’m always thankful that I’m behind a camera during that time to hide the liquid coming out of my eyes.
Following a little first look with the bridesmaids, we all headed over to Morton Arboretum for portraits. Devyn and Mike had the sweetest first look, where I’m pretty sure Mike had some tears in his eyes. While the ground was pretty saturated, limiting our locations for photos, we walked around and found the perfect spot by the lake for bride and groom portraits before heading over for wedding party photos. Devyn and Mike’s families and wedding party were all so fun and sweet that it just felt like we were hanging out with our own friends and family.
The ceremony and reception were held inside the Gingko Room overlooking Meadow Lake, just one of many ceremony locations on the Morton Arboretum property. After a cocktail hour and room flip, the reception started with a sentimental speech by Devyn’s mom before a delicious dinner, more speeches and dancing.
Devyn and Mike, I wish you all the best in your marriage! And I can’t wait to see photos from your upcoming honeymoon adventures.
