Hilary and Skyler’s engagement session at Allerton Park & Retreat Center outside Monticello, Illinois was one of my favorite sessions at this venue to date. From the sweet couple to the adorable puppy to all of the beauty that can be found in springtime at Allerton, the evening was just magical.

How They Met

“We met through mutual friends at a house party. One of my friends had just started dating one of his friends and we all hit it off instantly. I remember my friends asking me “which Pike County boy I wanted” and I told them none of them because it would end terribly. I was wrong.” –Hilary

When Did They Know That This Was “The One”

Skyler: “I realized Hilary was the one when we both graduated college at the same time. We were worried that she wouldn’t be able to find a job anywhere close to home. A job opened up in Jacksonville and I knew that it was a sign that we were supposed to be together.”

Hilary: “We were doing long distance for several years while we were in college. I remember driving back to school one night over the bridges into St. Louis just thinking about our relationship. I can’t explain it, but a feeling I had never had before just came over me. I don’t think that was the moment I knew I wanted to marry him, but it was definitely the exact moment I knew things were different.”

The Proposal

Hilary says it was, “Simple and sweet. He took me back to the place we first started dating on his dad’s land. We were driving around in his car and he pulled over and I immediately knew something was up. Then he made me get out of the car with him (to which I responded “no” -oops) and then he just asked me!”

Their Favorite Things to do Together

“Honestly, just spend time together. We both have crazy, opposite work schedules so any night we get together to just cook dinner and watch tv on the couch is really nice. We also enjoy Sunday family dinners and BBQs and date night when we get the chance! We always make time for date night on special occasions like our birthdays or our anniversary. Usually just dinner and a movie or grocery shopping!”
