Kelsey & Derek were married on Saturday on an unseasonably chilly day here in the Midwest. This Warehouse on State wedding was thankfully indoors, but we got some surprise snow during our photo time. While it was cold, the wedding party was so cooperative and we got some beautiful photos in the falling snow.
When I arrived at the hotel where Kelsey and Derek were getting ready, it was spitting some kind of sleet mixture that was not going to work at all for photos. I assured Kelsey that the radar looked hopeful that the mess of that wouldn’t last long, and then silently prayed that for once the weather app wouldn’t let me down. After everyone was hair and makeup ready, Kelsey slipped into her gown surrounded by her bridesmaids, who were all so sweet and fun to be around.
We had previously chosen to go to Luthy Botanical Gardens for photos prior to the ceremony so that we would have an indoor option for some photos and to keep people warm in between. On the way over, the snow started falling lightly on and off. Kelsey and Derek had a sweet, emotional first look and read vows to each other with a few flakes falling around them, then we went inside for some photos with the bridesmaids and groomsmen. When we came back outside for full wedding party photos, the snow was falling hard! It was magical. While it was cold, everyone was so cooperative in getting some awesome photos before we headed downtown for family photos.
Derek comes from a wonderfully large family with a bunch of kiddos, so we went back and forth about doing the photos outside as planned or moving them inside. Derek was sure that the kids would be great for some quick photos outside, and he was right! They were all amazing. It was beautiful, snowing, and the kids were all so sweet. We did a few photos of Kelsey & Derek along the river before heading over to the venue for the ceremony.
Warehouse on State is a unique venue in the warehouse district of downtown Peoria. It’s a beautiful setting for a ceremony and reception in one place with some of the best catering in the area. Kelsey and Derek’s ceremony was a sweet union of two people before God and their friends and family.
Perhaps my favorite unique part of the day was the coffee and ice cream bar from Faire Coffee that was set up during happy hour between the ceremony and reception. If you find yourself anywhere that Faire Coffee is serving their small batch ice cream, get some of the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte ice cream. You will thank me later.
Kelsey & Derek, your wedding day was beautiful and I’m so honored to have been a part of it. I wish you all the best in your marriage. Enjoy the warmth of the beach these next few days!
