Mitch and Erin originally wanted their session along Lake Michigan in Chicago with the city skyline behind them. Due to restrictions in Chicago during the time of their session, we couldn’t make that happen. We shifted gears so that they could still have a beautiful lake for their pictures. I think their Lake Geneva engagement session turned out just beautiful.

I first met Erin back when she was a University of Illinois gymnast. Our girls enjoyed going to watch the gymnastics team, so we went quite a few times to watch meets in Champaign, Illinois. During one of those meets, the girls got to meet some of the gymnasts and Erin was one of them. She was so sweet with the girls, and we all started following each other on Instagram. Erin was already dating Mitch, a U of I athlete himself, and one day she mentioned that she couldn’t wait to get engaged so that she could ask me to be her photographer.

Fast forward a few years and I got a message from Erin on Instagram asking that very question. I was so excited to say yes! I can’t wait to travel to Virginia next year for their wedding day.

For their engagement session, we had quite the time trying to get together. Between Mitch living outside the US right now getting his doctorate degree and Erin in Virginia, Covid travel restrictions made it really difficult for both of them to get to Illinois, where Mitch’s family lives, for their session. Once they were finally able to both get flights to Illinois at the same time, we had to try to figure out what was open so that I could give them gorgeous photos. After some research and the help of a fellow photographer friend, we found out that Lake Geneva was a great option.

I met up with them on a beautiful summer evening. While it was warm, there was a lovely breeze off of the lake, making it just perfect for photos. I had such a great time walking around the lake with them, getting to know and photographing them. As we said our “socially distanced” goodbyes at the end of their session, Erin gave me the sweetest little basket filled with cute plants and a thank you card. I really do have the sweetest couples.
