Nick and Megan | Central Illinois Wedding Photographer

weddings

Megan & Nick’s wedding at St Peter’s Lutheran Church, where her grandparents were married fifty years ago, was quite a memorable day. They booked their wedding way back in 2015, when this day seemed so far away.

Nick and Megan met in high school, where they had PE together sophomore year. Megan was pretty quiet, but remembers thinking that Nick was pretty cute. The two reconnected after junior year through Facebook right after Nick transferred to another high school. They began texting each other while Nick was visiting his dad in Alabama. Shortly after that, Megan was leaving on a missions trip to Nicaraqua, so they really didn’t get a chance to see each other in person for a while. After more than a year of talking, Nick and Megan started dating.

The beginning of their relationship was hard. Megan was sick a lot through her freshman year of college at ISU. Nick was at SIU, so they didn’t get to see each other much between the distance and Megan’s illnesses. Megan says that even though they hadn’t been dating long, and they didn’t know what was wrong with Megan, Nick took very good care of her whenever he could. She says that this is how she knew he was the one. “He is one of the most caring and loving people I have every met. He would do anything for the people he cares about, and I just love that about him.”

In November of 2015, Nick took Megan for a walk near his mom’s house in Bourbonnais. Megan didn’t really want to go, because it was freezing outside, but she agreed to go (though she admits to complaining the whole time). They ended up at a gazebo that overlooks the river where Nick proposed. Megan said it was the perfect spot because whenever they would walk, they would stop there to look at the water.

Megan and Nick are so sweet together. They are both pretty quiet and reserved around a lot of people, and were nervous about the wedding ceremony. But, the way they look at each other and care for each other is something really special.

Megan and Nick’s wedding day was truly a lesson in embracing the weather. As I drove to the church that morning, I realized how extremely windy it was. Looking at the forecast, I knew that we were in for a lot of heavy rain later in the day when we were scheduled to be shooting bridal party and bride/groom shots. Because of this, I drove around town a few minutes before heading to the church to scout out some options. As I met up with Megan at the church, we had some decisions to make. I’m so glad that Megan trusted me enough to rearrange the timeline in a way that would allow us to get the bridal party photos done ahead of time. We found a great building that provided a much-needed wind block and got some great shots!

Once those were out of the way, I asked Megan what was most important to her and how she felt shooting in the rain. She said that she was praying that their bubble exit could still happen at the church AND that she absolutely wanted pictures in the rain. Thankfully, I was prepared with clear umbrellas! I was a little concerned the umbrellas would be no match for the crazy wind, but it all worked out well.

Two of my favorite moments of the day included Megan’s dad. As he walked into the foyer of the church to see Megan for the first time in her wedding dress, he literally had to turn away. The tears were flowing from all of the bridesmaids and I had a little trouble keeping it together. Then, at the reception, Megan’s dad gave the sweetest speech. It was very clear that these two had a very special bond.

The ceremony was beautiful and simple, and the rain held off until just a few short minutes after the bubble exit! What timing!! After the bridal party loaded up, we headed to Kankakee to the train depot because we knew it had a bit of shelter. Despite the pouring rain, Megan and Nick were all about their portrait time. After shooting around the depot, we headed to Olivet Nazarene University for a few more before we headed to the Knights of Columbus for the reception.

The rest of the night, the rain came down in sheets, but the celebration continued inside. Megan and Nick have the best family and friends.

Megan and Nick, thank you for hiring me to capture your special day. It was an adventurous, fun day and the start of your adventurous life together.
