Things Brides Forget on the Wedding Day

Let’s face it! Wedding planning takes a lot of work. You probably have made dozens of checklists, sent countless emails to the wedding party and vendors, and have at least a few wedding apps on your phone to help you remember everything you need to do and bring on your wedding day.

It never fails. You are probably going to forget something. It’s okay! There are very few things you could forget that would actually stop you from getting married. I’ve even seen a couple get married without the wedding rings, because they were forgotten at home and too far away to go get them. They borrowed rings from the parents for the ceremony and it all worked out just fine. Try not to stress too much about forgetting things. Make a good list, delegate the things you don’t personally need to worry about and then just relax.

Here are a few common things that brides tend to forget that you might want to add to your wedding day checklist.

  1.  Vows, gift for your new hubby/wife or letter. If you are writing your own vows, make sure you have those and a backup copy to someone you trust. I would suggest making a physical copy so you aren’t at the alter reading your vows off a cell phone. If you are exchanging letters or gifts before the wedding, make sure those don’t get left behind.
  2. Passport and other travel documents. This one obviously only applies if you are leaving right away for a honeymoon, but it’s an important one. When we got married, you didn’t need a passport to fly to Cancun, but you did need a birth certificate. The night of the rehearsal, we realized Adam’s birth certificate had gotten thrown away. Thankfully, he had been to England a few years before and had a passport in a security box at the bank. If you are traveling, make sure to have all necessary documents in a secure place ready to go.
  3. Items to deal with the weather! Depending on the time of year and location, plan ahead for the weather. That might include an umbrella, coat, sunscreen or even rain boots. Think about getting from point a to point b and what you might need. Heel stoppers are also a great idea if you are taking pictures outside where your heels would sink into the ground.
  4. Marriage license. This is an important one that often gets overlooked. Make sure it’s ready to go and that someone is in charge of getting it to wear it needs to be.
  5. Wedding rings! Most likely, your photographer is going to want ALL of the wedding rings/bands where the bride is getting ready for detail shots. Appoint someone responsible to get them to the right people after the photographer is done with them.
  6. Comfortable shoes. Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to break in those amazing Badgley Mischka heels before the wedding day so that you can rock them for the ceremony and pictures. But, bring a pair of comfortable shoes for walking around in between pictures and for the reception. I’ve seen too many brides try to wear their heels all day and be miserable before the ceremony even begins. Miserable feet can really put a damper on your day. I also recommend bringing some blister band-aids in case you need them. I keep them in my emergency kit for my brides (or bridal party) because they create a nice cushion between your skin and shoe.

Again, there are tons of items that are important to add to your wedding day checklist. These are just a few that I’ve seen forgotten the most. Add them to your checklist and check it twice.
